How does the cultural immersion program work in Nicaragua? 
Cultural Immersion programs are where a student visits Nicaragua where the native language is Spanish. Under the cultural immersion program the student enrolls himself/herself in one of our schools. Later, they perform hours of community tasks (Remember that this is optional…many students just opt to take immersion classes and not involve themselves in the community stuff). By undertaking such community tasks, the person interacts with local people speaking Spanish on a one to one level and thereby increasing the language competency and confidence. Moreover, such cultural immersion programs also provide access into a foreign culture and help to gain insight into a new culture.  

What is the program exactly?
The Spanish lessons program and cultural immersion take place in the city of Granada, which is situated one hour south of Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua. Granada is on the coast of Lake Nicaragua (also known as Lake Cocibolca), the largest lake in Central America and hosting many islands! The architecture of this city dates back to the 16th century when the Spaniards conquered this part of the world. And little has changed here in the last 500 years.   
In Granada Nicaragua, you will get the feeling like you are studying with family. Spanish classes take place every morning. These will consist of grammar and conversation. The classes are taught by native Spanish speaker tutors that are dedicated to their work. The school offers a casual environment where students feel comfortable to be themselves, which helps the learning process.

The program includes participation in some of the following activities that the school sponsors:

• A visit to “El Barrio” in Granada
• A tour of the Old Fortress in Granada and the Cemetery
• A tour of the Museum of San Francisco
• A visit to San Juan Del Oriente to see the artists at work
• A visit to the Masaya waterfront and hammock workshops
• See the “Verbena” featuring the traditional dancing of Nicaragua

You can stay with a Nicaraguan family (also optional as we have many lodging options as well as a list of hotels if that’s your thing) that has been carefully screened by the school. There you will be offered three meals a day, displaying typical Nicaraguan dishes, and spend quality time with your homestay family. Our Granada Nicaragua program houses students with the same families repeatedly so that you can be assured of a safe and fun homestay! Your homestay benefits you and benefits your host family as well. It is a great experience for both parties.  This is just one of the many community partnerships in which we have been involved.
